- African Dance – Enjoy an interactive cultural performance while learning the history of traditional African dance in respective countries.
- Afro Latin Culture Workshop – We'll introduce you to the African influences on Latin American culture through the creation of instruments and participation of the various dance styles of Cuba and Brazil.
- Hip-Hop Jazz Musicology – Explore the social and historical influences of African American musical traditions in an interactive journey through time.
- Historical Re-enactments – History comes alive with interactive dramatic presentations of African American men and women who shaped the nation from the Colonial period to the Civil Rights Movement.
- Mlanjeni Magical Theatre – Introduce your little ones to the traditional African theatre style called Mungamano – an interactive performance that includes storytelling, folk music, conjuring, puppets and masks. The audience sings, dances, chants and chats with characters throughout the performance.
- Storytelling & Folktales – Learn about the art of traditional African American storytelling from a modern griot (storyteller).
- Royal Talking Drums – An hour-long African cultural art performance by Mshindi Vita Saana drummers and dancers, featuring the Royal Talking Drums from the Mshindi People. Learn about the unique role of African drums, and various other percussion instruments as a tool for communication.
- Educator Workshops – Our professional development workshops use exhibitions on display as a resource for developing interdisciplinary arts based and history lessons, and encouraging cultural literacy through object-based learning. Designed for docents, parents and teachers in core curricula areas, (including the arts, English language arts, social studies, the humanities and math), the workshops focus on creative methods for using and integrating art and history in the classroom.
