The African American Museum in Philadelphia Announces New Positions

AAMP is proud to announce that Patricia Wilson Aden was hired as the Vice President of Operations.  Aden comes to AAMP from the Rhythm and Blues foundation, where she served as Executive Director.  Additionally, Ivan Henderson was promoted to the position of Curator of Education and Public Programming. He previously served as Project Coordinator for Pennsylvania’s Initiative on Black History, Community Education and Neighborhood Revitalization at AAMP.


PatriciaWilsonAdenPatricia Wilson Aden brings almost two decades of experience in non-profit management to AAMP. Aden gained national experience in historic preservation and the mobilization of grassroots organizations while Director of the Mid-Atlantic Regional Office of the National Trust for Historic Preservation and as the Executive Director of preservation advocacy organizations in both Philadelphia and Washington, D.C.  In addition, Aden specialized in the revitalization of traditional urban commercial corridors in cities such as Boston, Atlanta, Detroit and Honolulu while working for the National Main Street Center. Aden has also worked as a private consultant specializing in the development of heritage tourism programs, supporting the revitalization of historic neighborhoods, and strategic planning for cultural organizations.  Aden holds a B.A. in history from Spelman College and a M.A. in historic preservation planning from Cornell University.  She serves on the boards of several organizations including the Philadelphia Cultural Fund, the Multicultural Affairs Congress of the Pennsylvania Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Community Design Collaborative of Philadelphia, the Pennsylvania Abolition Society and the Charter High School for Architecture and Design.


IvanHendersonIvan Henderson has worked at the African American Museum in Philadelphia since January 2007.  He has a decade of experience in the field of public and community education. Henderson previously worked as a research assistant at the National Center on Fathers and Families at University of Pennsylvania and the Black Periodical Literature Project at the W.E.B. Du Bois Institute for Afro-American Research at Harvard University.   He has also worked as a Program Manager at Songhai Press Corporation and a Graduate Research Assistant at the University of Pennsylvania. Henderson holds a B.A. in English and American Literature and Language from Harvard College (1999).
