Educators and Group Leaders
Are you interested in planning an experience for your group? Whether you’re a school class, family reunion, fraternal society or something else entirely, we have options designed to engage you in learning about the art, history and culture of peoples of the African Diaspora.
Group Tours and Workshops
We welcome groups of all ages to our museum for docent-led or self-guided tours. Tours last approximately 45-60 minutes and provide an overview of the museum’s exhibits, including our core exhibit, Audacious Freedom: African Americans in Philadelphia 1776-1876, and temporary exhibits that change approximately twice a year. Tours are designed to encourage a deeper engagement with exhibits while exposing group members to what may be unfamiliar information about the arts, history and culture of peoples of the African Diaspora.
Storytellers, Historical Re-Enactors, Music, Dance, and More! Our Learning Through the Arts and AAMP on the Go! workshops bring history to life and arts to your group with interactive learning opportunities sure to keep participants talking.

Research Suggestions
Okay, so you’ve been assigned, or chosen (great!), a project on a person, event or group in black history. Who or what to write about? You might be considering someone like the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Rosa Parks, Harriet Tubman, Sojourner Truth or Frederick Douglass. Or maybe you’re thinking about the Harlem Renaissance or the March on Washington.
These are great ideas for you to learn more about! But, black history features many more people, eras, and events than these. Consider the suggestions below as ideas to get you off the beaten path and to help you explore some topics that are less well-known but very interesting and important!
And here’s a tip: Check back every now and then – you never know when this list might change!
