We are committed to prioritizing the health and safety of our guests and employees. To achieve this, we have developed timed-ticketing options to reduce person-to-person contact and to ensure that we are adhering to capacity limitations. Tickets can be purchased online prior to your visit, or in person upon arrival utilizing one of our self-serve kiosks.

We encourage all visitors to purchase their tickets online prior to your visit to ensure your entry into the Museum.

To ensure the health and safety of our guests and employees the Museum has limited visits to four timeslots per day, observing the following hours of operations:
Thursday – Sunday: 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM
  • Time Slot 1: 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM
  • Time Slot 2: 12:00 PM – 1:15 PM

Keeping You Safe During Your Visit
The Museum will be cleaned and disinfected at regular intervals, as outlined in the latest CDC recommendations. Cleaning of the facility, includes public/common areas, galleries, restrooms, and the elevator. All contact surfaces will be cleaned and disinfected regularly with a focus on frequently touched surfaces before, during, and in-between time ticketing slots.

Wear Your Face Mask
We ask that visitors age 3+ present with a face mask upon arrival; however, if you happen to forget 1 single-use face mask will be available upon entry.

Practice Social Distancing & Good Hygiene
During your visit it is important that you practice social distancing and follow good hygiene procedures. Sanitizing stations will be available throughout the galleries as well as bathrooms where you can thoroughly wash your hands.

New Exhibition Experience & Etiquette

We have re-designed our core exhibition, Audacious Freedom: African Americans in Philadelphia 1776 – 1876, so that you may still enjoy hands-free access to its valuable contents!

  • Founders Gallery – Use your eyes to explore the imagery found within the first part of Gallery I, our Founders Gallery.
  • Timelines Gallery – In the second part of Gallery I, the Timelines Gallery, use your eyes and ears as we illuminate and explore important topics from the Audacious Freedom time period, including entrepreneurship, environment, education, religion, and family traditions.
  • Conversations Gallery – Taking the general information you learned from Gallery I, make your way up the ramp to Gallery II, our Conversations Gallery, where you will learn more about specific trailblazers—or Agents--from 18th and 19th Century Philadelphia, including such heroes as Octavius Catto, Richard Allen and Frances Ellen Watkins Harper. Step-activated ground controls will allow you to interact with the several kiosks in this gallery, and engage these

Keep your phone handy as you walk throughout the Museum. We have placed QR codes throughout Galleries II, III, and IV to enhance your experience with supplemental media and information on what you are seeing.​

  • Children’s Corner – For ages 3 through 8, this hands-on installment has now been updated with QR codes so you can explore the daily lives of children in Philadelphia during the Audacious Freedom time period.​
  • Galleries III & IV – These galleries are visual in nature and do not have interactive components; however, online resources providing more information on the art, artist(s), and overall exhibition can be accessed by scanning QR codes found throughout each gallery.

Built in response to community needs during our extended closure, the Virtual Campus will remain a vital onramp to the AAMP experience for diverse audiences.
