The African American Museum in Philadelphia is the first institution built by a major United States city to house and interpret the life and work of African Americans. Our doors are open for your enjoyment and enlightenment six days a week. Visit us and experience the richness and vibrancy of African American heritage and culture come alive in four magnificent exhibition galleries filled with exciting history and fascinating art.
2013 is the year of Dream Supreme. Inspired by our blockbuster exhibit, Come See About Me: the Mary Wilson Supremes Collection, this theme reflects AAMP’s continuing efforts to fulfill our mission and manifest our vision of becoming a museum of local, national and international importance. This year will be full of programs, events and partnerships that speak to making dreams come true, self-realization and empowerment – with some fun and entertainment along the way! Be sure to regularly check the “Special Events” and “Calendar” tabs on this site to find out what’s going on.
The museum is located in the City's historic district, right on the corner of 7th and Arch Streets. We are one block from the National Constitution Center and Independence National Historic Park, three blocks from the Liberty Bell and a short walk from the Pennsylvania Convention Center.
