AAMP needs assistance throughout the year in support of our membership initiatives, our education and public programs, as well as exhibit openings.
The museum also seeks qualified individuals who are interested in being docents. Docents are often the first person our guests encounter when requesting a guided tour of AAMP. Sign up to be a docent, and you can play a role in shaping the story behind our exhibits as well as lead educational tours.

Become a Docent
Docents (volunteer museum guides) are the faces of the museum for groups that visit each day. They serve as educators and ambassadors, working to ensure that the AAMP experience is fulfilling and enjoyable for groups of various ages, interests and backgrounds. Without our docents, our institution would not flourish.
Docents receive all benefits of an Individual Museum Membership, so long as they lead at least 3 tours per month.

The Docent Program teaches trainees to:
- Combine the power of history with the art of storytelling to translate the heritage and culture of people of African descent in a relevant and engaging manner
- Promote what the museum stands for as a cultural institution and what it offers through its collections, exhibitions and programming.
- Trigger the imagination of the visitor, helping them to make new connections between past and present, familiar and unfamiliar.
